Spring is quite literally just around the corner and as well as the annual Spring and de-clutter that takes place in the Kiddywinks household we will also be doing an awful lot of gardening ready to be enjoyed in the sunshine, if we get any this year!
When we first moved into our house the garden was a dump with the fences coming down on both sides and grass quite literally thigh high. We also had what the estate agents described as a “wooden decked area” it was in fact the base of a shed that had been taken down! It had always been my dream to grow my own veg with Imogen but having lived in rented new build properties for many many years we’ve never really had the space. Once we removed the “decking” I was pleasantly surprised to find a perfect rectangle of lovely soil, perfect for a veggie patch.
After an awful lot of digging, digging and more digging Imogen and I had our veggie patch and thoroughly enjoyed donning our wellies daily to tend to our delicious edible friends. The first year was a huge success with more mange tout that you can ever imagine, courgettes that resembled marrows and beautiful cauliflowers that got munched over night – you can’t have it all!
Last year the garden and the veggies had to take a step back because I didn’t have much time after Joseph was born but am thoroughly looking forward to getting back into it again. We have huge plans for it this year including ditching all of the old plastic garden furniture and investing in something an awful lot nicer, perhaps some teak garden furniture. I’m also think that if we manage to fit Imogen’s trampoline into the side garden then we may even have room for something to make Al Fresco dining a lot more pleasant and have been eying up some rattan garden furniture, after all there is nothing like a plastic chair stuck to your bum to put you off your Caesar salad!

loving those wellies!
